Bowens International
I worked for Bowens International for over 10 years and in that time I worked on 4 major campaigns.
I won my first ever award 'Girl on Train' from the Bowens Traveplak campaign photos.
Things really exploded for me after working on the Ring-flash campaign where I had free reign on the creative content and I teamed up with alternative model Morgana from Iberian Black Arts.
My original idea for the shoot was to use a black liquid poured over her head with just her eyes showing through. So to accomplish this I asked a friend of mine - who happens to be in the restaurant business, to get me 5 litres of black treacle. We soon realised very quickly that we only had one shot at this so we used the treacle as gloves to give us a back up shot. It turned out this was actually the perfect shot although we still did 3 variations.
This black treacle gloves shot was used as posters and magazine covers all over the world. In fact two weeks after shooting it, Rob from Bowens asked me to do a white version for the Photokina exhibition stand, so after another quick brainstorm we came up with Morgana in the bath shot which won me the 2009 Creative East Photographer of the Year Award.
It was one of the most fruitful collaborations I have worked on and just goes to show when we work together with ideas and there is the faith to let experimentation and creativity run free, the results can far exceed the norm.
