48 hours in Detroit
Detroit is a city on the up but it's impossible to ignore its turbulent past when you walk these streets.
It's still home to the American automotive industry and although the likes of Ford and GM still have their headquarters and factories in the surrounding area, older factories like the Packard Bell factory in the city have been derelict for decades.
Ford has in recent years turned its old Piquette plant into a wonderful museum about the birth of the model T and hence the birth of the Ford motor company.
New shops, businesses and a sense of renewal will undoubtedly make Detroit an up-and-coming US city to watch in future years.
